Jerawat

Last Saturday I woke up with a big zit on my chin. And I needed a quick remedy to at least lessen the redness. And I remembered someone telling me that toothpaste helped reduce the swelling.

That morning went in a blur. Wake up, shampoo hair, get ready for muay thai class but most of all going about searching for my boxing gloves and wraps that mysteriously did a disappearing act.

Keluar dari rumah cepat-cepat sebab sudah terlambat dan on the way terpaksa berhenti di 7-11 terdekat untuk membeli mentos. Terpaksa sebab tiba-tiba teringat mentos yg berinti jam stroberi dan lemon lantas mahu tidak mahu terpaksa berhenti di kedai tersebut dan-dan tu jugak.

Masa nak bayar, adik tu menegur tahi lalat saya yang sungguh besar. Masa tegur tu dia senyum lebar.

Bila saya kembali ke kereta, saya melihat muka di cermin bekas bedak kompak saya.

I had forgotten to wipe off the big splotch of toothpaste on my chin.

Itu la eksen kemain bedak kompak tak nak kalah beli jenama mac tapi ubat jerawat tempek colgate. Padan muka. :-))))

Membeli barangan runcit

Yesterday after Bollywood dance class I had dinner with a girlfriend at a cafe in Bangi and on the way I stopped by a convenience store to buy some groceries. After finding nearly everything, I went up to the sales assistant to ask about the last item I was looking for.

-Adik telur ada?
-Ada kak. Tapi kecik. (and pointed to another corner of the mart)
-Oh. Tak nak lah kecik sangat.
-OK jap kak.

From another part of the store I could hear the supervisor's voice shouting out to the kid.

-Awe mung kecek molek-molek sikit dengan Akak tu. Dio mintok ghapo ke kamu? Nanti kito keno kompeling ni dengae muluk kamu hok celupa tu.

And while he was scolding the boy he walked towards me and the boy came back to where I was waiting. He was holding a carton of telur kecik.

-Owh. Hok telur yang itu.

Salah sangka dan salah tafsiran menjadikan kita mangsa keadaan. Bak kata lagu Sheila Majid lah. Kalau saya, saya kata, "Awe kalau hok telur kecik lagu tu mu simpae sendiri la buak main batu serembae."

Tapi saya hanya tersenyum. Saya ambil telur kecik budak itu dan saya ucapkan terima kasih kepadanya, sebelum bergegas ke kaunter pembayaran.

Masuk air

At the beginning of the rafting trip our guide Salim had already predicted that a few of us would be thrown into the river.

-Ni mesti ada yang terjun masuk air ni. Nanti kita tengok siapa.

Tapi kami tetap steady. Yang hampir terjatuh tu dia.

-WhatsApp.

Seminit kemudian.

-Application yang boleh chat between iPhone n BB tu apa namanya?
-Application tu namanya WHATSAPP la.

-Ooohh. He he. I thot I saw u wrote whatsup. That's why I asked the same question.

Walhal kawan saya ini membeli iPhone kerana font tulisan untuk sms dan email boleh ditukar bukan sahaja kepada Extra Large tetapi juga Giant. :-)))

Sincere Care Home Kajang

This lady is one of the elderly residents of the Sincere Care Home in Kajang. She is nearing 70. Gentle and soft spoken. When asked about her children, she would just brush the subject off lightly, saying that she doesn't remember much about their whereabouts. All she tells me is that she is lucky to be in the company of the other residents. She doesn't want to talk about her family.

And yet she still mothered me around when we came to have tea with them, asking me to drink and have all the cakes and snacks, adding that I could do with a little more weight.

"Saya makan sikit tada apa, janji kita semua boleh rasa."

And she never stopped smiling.

Such is the beauty of the spirit for life.

Sepetang berjalan-jalan

Hari itu saya pergi berjalan-jalan di taman bersama anak saudara saya.

Langit mendung seperti hendak hujan.

Kami berborak-borak sambil berjalan.

-Mak Long I collected rocks from Ayong's garden. 4 rocks. Different colours.
-Wow. Did you have fun?
-Yeah! We had to dig. And then I thought we found some dinosaur bones.
-Which dinosaur?
-Oh then I discovered that they weren't dinosaur bones. Just chicken bones.
-Oh OK.
-Mak Long do they have dinosaur chickens?
-I guess so.
-What are they called?
-C-Rex.
-Like T-Rex?
-Uhuh.
-C for chicken?
-Uhuh.
-Owhhh. Thanks Mak Long. You're the best Mak Long in the world. You know everything.

Dan kami terus berjalan.

As I went through gate D5 to board my flight back home from my short holiday break, the thought that came to my mind was "Alamak nanti gi keje nak iron baju mana ni?"
